01. Choosing Your Dune: Chebbi vs. Chigaga

Morocco boasts two main "Ergs" (seas of sand dunes). Choosing the right one is critical to your experience.

Erg Chebbi (Merzouga)

The most famous and accessible dunes. Rising up to 150m, they are known for their striking orange-pink color.

Erg Chigaga (M'Hamid)

Wild, remote, and vast. Requires a 2-hour 4x4 drive off-road to reach. It feels like the end of the world.

"Whisky Berbère." Tea is poured from high above to create a frothy crown ("reze"). It is a ritual of hospitality, patience, and conversation. It is rude to refuse the first glass.

Gnawa Music

In the village of Khamlia near Merzouga, you can hear the hypnotic rhythms of Gnawa music. Originally brought by sub-Saharan Africans, these spiritual songs are a UNESCO heritage treasure.

With zero light pollution and dry air, the Sahara offers one of the clearest windows to the universe on Earth. The Milky Way casts a shadow here. You will see shooting stars, satellites, and constellations with naked eyes in a way you never thought possible.
